Below is a list of some of the more common warning signs that your equine may be in need of the services of an equine dentist.
Loss of condition.
Large particles of food present in droppings.
Bolting hard feed / hay.
Quidding (dropping food / hay from mouth).
Dunking hay in water.
Excessive drooling / salivation.
Unpleasant smell from mouth / nose.
Discharge from nose, eyes or jaw.
Sensitive around the head / head shy.
Difficulty in bridling.
Head shaking under saddle.
Rearing / bucking under saddle.
Setting jaw against the bit.
Lack of control / steering.
Particularly heavy on one or both reins.
Avoiding the bit.
Uneven gait.
Wrong strike off in canter.
Obvious sores on lips / cheeks.
Soft tissue injury to inside of mouth / tongue.
This list is not exhaustive and all equines will benefit from a 6 monthly check to maintain optimum health and address any problems before they become more serious.
